Front disk shroud on 34L Tenere

Post by Sainty » Thu Jan 17, 2019 7:56 am

Hi. Should my 1984 X600Z have a red cover fitted over the front disc brake? Mine currently hasnt but Im gradually getting the bike back to original. Not a restoration, more a preservation. My profile picture is my old 55W not my current bike. Thanks in advance, Paul

The 34L had the early forks & no disc cover, from the 55W onwards shared the same forks & disc cover.

Thanks for your help. That link explains it all. Mine seems to have a longer seat than that in the picture though.....or does it? The rear luggage rack/toolbox that I found (allegedly for a 34L but why is it yellow?) fouled the rear of the seat when I tried to fit it. It must be the wrong rack or seat. I have an aftermarket rack and muffler fitted but apart from that, its looking quite original now and I ride it regularly. Took it to last years TT and didnt see any other early Teneres there.

Have a look at the frame number on the right hand side of the headstock it'll tell you what it started life as.
The long seat is a 55W the short seat a 34L.
If you'd like to sell that 34L yellow rack in the pictures I'd be more than happy to offer you good money for it.
The rack and the oil cooler shroud are the only things missing on my 34L to finish it...

Engine and frame numbers are both 34L004101. If thats the correct rack (the yellow one....that Ive painted black now) does that mean its the wrong seat?

I'd say you've got a long seat on a 34L.
You've certainly got the earlier forks and swing arm with snail adjusters on inside which means 34L
I thought the rear seat mounts were different on the 55W frame but it may just be an extended seat base with same mount points.
